Thank you Laurie – these have been fun to write! In the spirit of the season I tried to put it in a song, but it’s hard to find words that rhyme with “security.” ;) Check back for more tomorrow, and thank you for reading!

Wow - "People spend 5 hrs a day on social media." It's true - it doesn't matter if your company is small or huge, if valuable interactions come from social media (and they do!), it's definitely worth it.

Thanks for taking the time to respond Liz & Jimmy! Great points and great blog. I love following you guys on Twitter and the expansions and technology growth we are seeing in POS systems is pretty amazing.

Liz: I'm sure you do get hammered with POS integration requests and vendor requests. Especially as being one of the largest vendors out there! So no concerns; we are getting very close to having a product we can demonstrate, and I am very excited to get to that point where we can show you what we can do and hopefully add another new piece of awesome functionality that can be new way for the restaurants and bars that use Aloha to streamline and improve their operations and margins (while making customers happy!).

Thanks again; I'll be in touch; for sure!

Nick,

Thank you for your post. As you know, Radiant (now part of NCR) receives over 800 inquiries a year requesting to integrate to Aloha. In 2011, over 100 of these requests were from mobile payment applications. We are watching the industry closely and thank you for your recent application to our partnership program. Once you are out of development with your product, feel free to re-open your application by contacting partnerships@radiantsystems.com.

Best,

Liz

Nick –

Thanks for the feedback. I agree with you on the points regarding the commonality of mobile ordering and the relatively greater use of cash in European markets. I did not mean to imply that mobile ordering is ‘everywhere’ in European restaurants, only that its common enough that the dining public is quite a bit more familiar with it there than they are here. Interestingly, when executives from our customer base here in the US travel to Europe, they almost inevitably comment on having seen at least one restaurant using mobile ordering during their travels. You could eat out every day for years here in the US and never see that. At least for now. :-)

Also, I agree that mobile payment and mobile ordering are two separate functionalities. In Europe the two are almost never unified in a single experience, althought that's quite likely to change as credit payments become more common. Here in the US mobile ordering is virtually never implemented without mobile payment. Like you, we believe that payment and other interactions between a consumer’s smart phone and the restaurant’s POS system will become commonplace in the future. We believe that the use of handhelds by restaurant staff will complement that sort of interaction, not compete with it.

I’ll let Liz address your points on interfacing to POS systems.

Cheers,

Jimmy
